Parents Working Together.... Staying Connected
In a recent meeting (8/8/06) held with the Superintendent, Dr. David Schuler and Dr. Michael Damyanovich, Associate Superintendent for Educational Services, the Central Committee of CQE gave specific examples of inappropriate situations in the classroom as it relates to violations of District 214's controversial issues policy.
The superintendent stated that these examples were helpful, but a lot more are needed. Your information will be strictly confidential. You do not even have to mention the teacher's name. You should mention the school name, the class, and attach evidence such as a test, instructional materials, or handouts, if applicable.
Below are some examples of situations we know of, but as of yet have received no written information:
A questionnaire that is used at Hersey at the beginning of the year for Freshman students where they must decide whether they are a "progressive" or a "conservative". The way the questionnaire is worded, no student would ever say they are a conservative, due to the unfavorable descriptions. We need that type of information.
A student was forced to watch nudity in a movie without having been warned or the teacher requesting students bring home a permission slip to the parents per the controversial issues policy. The teacher could have easily fast forwarded the movie as it was not necessary to accomplish the educational goal. Instead, the teacher made immature comments about the nudity.
